about

Irv Teibel always intended to release another ocean recording after the ecstatic reaction to The Psychologically Ultimate Seashore. Over the years he received feedback calling for a slower, deeper watery soundscape, and that's what he produced with “Pacific Ocean.” In the liner notes he explains the goals of the recording and how it differs from the Environments 1 ocean recording: “Slow it down, improve the dynamics, alter the frequency content, add a few seagulls, widen the spatial effect and, most importantly, give our Environments’ friends a new ocean to listen to.”

From the notes for “Caribbean Lagoon” on Side B of Environments 9: “Imagine a superb, crystal-clear night on a tropical island… A truly idyllic retreat where you can imagine all's right with the world. It indeed exists, and Syntonic Research has carefully preserved its serene aural charm with transcendent realism and clarity.” Irv Teibel seemed endlessly fascinated by water, and throughout his career made several recordings of streams, oceans, and swamps. He felt the lagoon had a unique quality to it. Unlike the monumental ocean, there are occasional moments of near-silence and “the delicate accompaniment of rare night creatures.” It's unknown where “Caribbean Lagoon” was recorded.
